- in the red (informal): to be overdrawn
- in the black (informal): to be in credit
- debt: both countable and uncountable noun
- to be in debt: Most university students in the USA are in debt when they finish their degree.
- get into debt vs get out of debt
- to withdraw money vs to make a deposit
- loan (n.): amount of money that is borrowed and which must be paid back in the future
- scholarship (n.): amount of money paid by a school, organization, university, etc. to a student who has a lot of ability, but not much money. This money does not need to be paid back.
- get a loan vs repay a loan
- have a current account vs have a savings account
- be well off vs be short (or money)
- buy/get something on credit vs pay cash for sth
- have a good/bad credit rating: measure of sb's ability to pay back money, based on their financial history
- current account (n.): a bank account that you can get money from at any time
- savings account (n.): a bank account which earns a good rate of interest
