  • A film is also called a movie or a picture (more traditional parlance: Let's go to the pictures)
  • To rave about an actor's performance means to praise it.
  • Blockbuster: a a highly popular film 
  • Flop: an unpopular film
  • Box office: the film ticket sales (the place where cinema goers go to buy their tickets)
  • The Oscars: informal name of the Academy Awards
  • Silent movie: film with no sound track
  • Acceptance speech: the person who wins an Oscar gives this speech when they collect their award.
  • Nominee: person shortlisted for an award
  • Nominations: films shortlisted for an award
  • Movie buff: person who knows a lot about films
  • To shoot a film: to make a film
  • An understudy: actor who studies a role as a potential replacement for the main actor
  • Credits: the names that appear at the end of the film
  • A film shot on location is made in a real place, not in a studio
  • Stuntman / stuntwoman: person who replaces the actor/actress in physically violent or dangerous scenes.
  • Slow motion: when a film runs at a slower than normal speed
  • Props: the objetcs used in a film scene
  • Voice-over: the voice of the narrator heard in a film
  • Dubbed: film translated into another language using voice-overs
